The former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power in the most remarkable way possible in 2019. He defeated the fundamentally strong TDP and the other two parties BJP, and Janasena without a trace.
But just five years later, Jagan ended up in an even more pathetic position by winning just 11 seats. So the electoral result from yesterday should be a significant setback to him.
The point to be noted here is that no other ruling party in the recent times was humiliated and dissipated from power as wildly as YSR Congress.
In Telangana, BRS could get a reasonable 39 seats after staying in power for 10 years. In Tamil Nadu, DMK could get 60 seats, which is a reasonable number in the outcome. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC could get around 100 seats in West Bengal.
The common point here is that all the parties that had lost the collection after staying in power could generate at least reasonable number of seats.
But when it comes to YSR Congress, the Jagan party was absolutely rejected by the public to the degree that Jagan was not even given the opposition leader status.
It is true that chief minister like Stalin and Mamta Banerjee themselves lost as MLAs but their parties will live to fight another day. In case of YSR Congress, it polled less than 10% seats in the assembly and is facing existential crisis now.
