Politics is expected to serve public interest, especially when something good is happening for a state. But when it comes to YSR Congress, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Earlier today, the CEO of a Bengaluru-based company took to X to express frustration about the city’s worsening infrastructure. He said his team’s average commute time had crossed 1.5 hours (one way), with roads full of potholes and dust, and no serious effort from the government to fix them.
Nara Lokesh responded immediately. The Minister invited the CEO to consider relocating to Vishakapatnam, highlighting the city’s clean environment, infrastructure, and safety.
What happened next is unclear, but suddenly YSR Congress supporters began backing Bengaluru, criticising Lokesh’s move. Some called it “desperate PR” and accused him of damaging relations with Karnataka.
Interestingly, a similar reaction happened earlier when Lokesh pitched Andhra Pradesh to aerospace companies whose projects had stalled in Bengaluru due to land acquisition issues.
But here’s the question why should YSR Congress fans be worried about the Karnataka government?
Yes, Lokesh made a public pitch. It may work, or it may not. But what’s wrong in trying? If even one company considers Andhra Pradesh, it’s a win for the state.
Some say the company was planning to shift to another location in Bengaluru, and Lokesh jumped the gun. That may be true, but again what’s wrong with being proactive?
In today’s competitive world, leaders must act fast. Lokesh is willing to take risks and be called desperate if it means attracting new opportunities to the state.
The Opposition could have just stayed silent. But by openly criticising this kind of initiative, YSR Congress supporters are only revealing their own insecurity.
Instead of undermining good efforts, it’s better to focus on what benefits the people. Andhra Pradesh needs more ministers who are willing to act and speak up for the state.
