Will Modi Pass 42% BC Bill Or Get Down From Chair?

Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has taken a bold step by leading a protest in New Delhi along with his ministers and party colleagues, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi pass the 42% BC reservation bill. The move stems from the Telangana Congress’s socio, educational, employment, economic, and political caste (SEEEPC) survey conducted in November 2024, which aligned with its Kamareddy Declaration made before the elections.

Following the survey, the Telangana Congress passed two major bills in the state assembly: the Telangana BC, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Bill, 2025, and the Telangana Backward Classes Bill, 2025. If these bills receive presidential assent from Droupadi Murmu, the current reservation percentage will increase from 23% to 42%, sparking heated political debate.

On Wednesday, Revanth Reddy, flanked by senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, gathered national attention by daring the BJP-led central government to pass the bill or face defeat in the next general elections. Reddy squarely challenged Prime Minister Modi, asserting that failure to act on the BC reservation demand would cost the BJP its power at the Centre.

In a sharp political attack, Reddy also targeted the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by KCR, accusing them of being divided over the reservation issue. He lashed out at KCR for labeling the protest a “drama,” and in turn claimed that internal family conflicts within KCR’s circle are the reason BRS has distanced itself from the Congress-led movement.
