The Osmania University (OU) student leaders, who played a significant role in the Telangana movement, are facing disappointment from political parties as they were promised tickets before the elections but have been largely ignored or sidelined. Many student leaders who actively participated in the Telangana movement and expected tickets from various political parties have been let down.
Despite their efforts and expectations, some student leaders have refrained from actively participating in the election campaigns, while others are supporting candidates from different parties out of frustration for not getting tickets. Several OU student leaders who sought Congress candidacy faced setbacks as the party did not allocate tickets to them.
The Bharatiya Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) had previously given tickets to OU student leaders Balka Suman and Gadari Kishore in the 2014 and 2018 elections, both of whom secured seats in the legislature. However, this time, while the BRS retained Balka Suman and Gadari Kishore as candidates, other student leaders like Bonthu Rammohan, Gellu Srinivasayadav, and Manne Krishank were left disappointed.
Despite assurances from Rahul Gandhi, who engaged with OU student JAC leaders and promised due priority in ticket allocation, the Congress did not provide any tickets to OU student leaders in the 2018 elections. In the current elections as well, the tickets for OU student JAC leaders from the Congress have not been finalized, leading to disappointment among those who were hopeful of contesting on the party ticket.
The lack of representation for OU student leaders in various parties has left them disheartened and silent in the current political scenario. The student leaders, who were instrumental in the Telangana movement, find themselves on the sidelines during the election season.
