No Impact Of Gun Violence on Desis in U.S.The Americans are being subjected to one mass killing after another. The Uvalde school shoot-out was a huge shocker for the Indians living in the US and hoping to get a green card someday. However, the nation woke up to another horrific incident on July 4 in Evanston, a town not far from Highland Park, where the deadly Independence Day shooting took place.

Now, Highland Park in Illinois is not a rough neighborhood. In fact, it is an upscale neighborhood where Indians have made their homes in the hope of living their ‘American Dream.’ However, Indians whose sole aim is to settle in the land of El Dorado don’t seem to be deterred by the growing intolerance in American society.

The Indians are aware that such shoot-outs are not one-odd incidents, and more importantly, they are not happening away from home. Today, the fear is very much in their hearts, and for now, there seems to be no solution in sight.

Meanwhile, the clamor for green cards continues as people, hook or crook, want to be part of the American society and ensure their children are citizens of the country. Despite backlogs and years of waiting, Indians are not giving up on wanting to settle down in the US.

Some have felt that the shootings usually took place in areas where Indians don’t live. But the recent incidents show that the menace is getting closer and closer.

Despite all this, the aspirants for a green card continue to rise.
