A Bengaluru City Civil Court has granted significant interim legal relief to Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
The court issued a “John Doe” restraining order to stop the online spread of unverified land grab and encroachment allegations against him.
The legal dispute stems from a wave of videos, articles, and social media posts circulated between May 29 and June 1, 2026.
The viral content made damaging claims, alleging that Pawan Kalyan had illegally encroached upon the Kodi Cheruvu lakebed in the Ranga Reddy district of Telangana and manipulated local land records.
Before moving the court, Pawan Kalyan’s legal team sent formal complaints with documentary evidence to tech intermediaries under the IT Rules to refute the claims. However, X Corp (formerly Twitter) responded by stating it would only act upon receiving a formal court order.
Taking note of the situation, the court stepped in with an injunction on June 10, which it formally sharpened on June 11.
The modified order specifically directs major tech platforms, including X Corp, Google LLC, and Meta Platforms Inc, alongside unidentified internet users (under the pseudonym “Ashok Kumar”) to refrain from hosting or sharing the defamatory content.
Under this directive, the social media giants are required to block all specific URLs, links, and videos carrying the land encroachment allegations.
The temporary injunction remains firmly in place until the next formal hearing scheduled for July 24, 2026, successfully putting a halt to the unverified viral campaign.
