Power Purchase Scam: No Legal Relief For KCR

Power Purchase Scam KCR

Former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS’s supremo, K. Chandrashekar Rao, faced a setback in the High Court as the magistrate dismissed his petition against the Justice Narasimha Reddy commission earlier today.

Citing irregularities in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Chattisgarh, and the construction of Bhadradri and Yadadri thermal power plants during his rule, the present Congress government launched a probe against KCR.

A commission has been formed under the leadership of Justice Narasimha Reddy to inquire into the case. Upon investigating the case, the commission sought a response from KCR regarding the irregularities in the PPAs.

In his response, KCR stated that the commission was politically motivated and biased towards the current government. He also asked Narasimha Reddy to withdraw from this commission.

In his petition, KCR stated that the formation of the commission was ultra vires the provisions of the Commission of Inquiry Act 1952 and Electricity Act 2003.

Expecting that he would be called in person for the questioning of the case, KCR filed a petition in the High Court, stating that all power purchases were made as per rules and quashed the allegations of the Narasimha Reddy commission.

After hearing the case earlier today, the High Court opined that the investigation is happening as per the rules and asserted that KCR’s petition doesn’t qualify for a trial. It dismissed his petition and green-lit the further investigation of the commission.

As his petition has been dismissed, we can expect the commission to call KCR anytime for questioning in this case.
