According to reliable sources, the merger between YSRTP (YSR Telangana Party) and the Congress has broken down. Despite YSRTP chief YS Sharmila’s efforts to negotiate a merger with the Congress, discussions with high-ranking Congress leaders such as DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru, as well as meetings with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Venugopal in Delhi, have ended in differences over demands.
Initially, there were reports that a strategist named Sunil had been involved in negotiations and a deal was close to being finalized, with a plan to visit Delhi in a day or two.
However, with the breakdown in the merger talks, it has now been revealed that Sharmila intends to contest the upcoming elections in Telangana independently, without merging or forming an alliance with any other party.
It is also reported that an official announcement will be made soon, inviting applications for B-forms from October 9th, indicating YSRTP’s intention to field candidates in almost all Assembly and Parliament seats. Sharmila is reportedly ready to contest from various constituencies.
As per the initial plan, YS Sharmila Reddy intended to contest from the Paleru Assembly constituency, a significant constituency in the joint Khammam district. Sharmila has already initiated party activities by opening a party office and unveiling a YSR statue in the region.
With no merger taking place, Sharmila is set to contest from Paleru, as originally planned, while the high command of the Congress had intended to field former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on behalf of the Congress in the event of a merger.
