Despite being the biggest democratic nation in the world, India generally witnesses a very slow voting trend earlier in the day on the polling day. But the situation is completely different today as five Indian states are polling their votes in the ongoing assembly elections.
The most significant states here are obviously West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, which have a significant role to play in the national politics.
The latest numbers regarding the polling trends in these two major Indian states are posing a pleasant surprise to everyone. The numbers recorded at the polling booths since the start of the day are simply phenomenal.
In Tamil Nadu, that total voting percentage as of 1 PM is said to be 56%. The number is significantly higher in West Bengal, where 62% polling has been recorded till now. These are surprisingly good numbers for an Indian electoral system.
To put that into perspective, Tamil Nadu recorded 39% voting as of 1 PM in the earlier 2021 Assembly election. This number has been bettered by around 75% when compared to the same time period in this year’s election.
What is extremely clear here is that the Indian population is turning up in big numbers starting from earlier in the day today. This is a very positive outcome in terms of general voting percentage.
But the big question here is whether this is a strong pro-government wave or an anti incumbency wave that would decide the future of these states.
