TDP Second List: Some Interesting Decisions Taken

TDP-Second-List

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has prioritized selecting candidates who are popular among the people in the process of candidate selection.

This emphasis on popularity was evident in both the first list of 94 candidates and the recently announced second list of 34 candidates, released under the ‘X’ platform by party leader Chandrababu.

In some instances, there were protests against changes in candidates, but candidates who were positively received by the people were given opportunities.

For example, in Proddatur of Kadapa district, former MLA N. Varadarajalureddy (81) received a ticket despite facing financially better-off and younger competitors.

Party surveys indicated that Varadarajulu Reddy was more popular among the people, leading to his selection.

Similarly, in Chodavaram of Anakapalli district, former MLA KSNS Raju, who had resigned after the last assembly elections, returned to party work and gained popularity through collaborative efforts with Battula Tataiah Babu.

Despite financial constraints, Raju was given an opportunity due to his growing popularity.

The TDP also made efforts to accommodate representation from various communities. Seats such as Nandyala, Guntur East, and Madanapalle were allotted to candidates from Muslim minority backgrounds.

Additionally, candidates from marginalized communities like SC and ST were also given opportunities, such as Dr. Murali Mohan , who worked as a journalist in a TV channel, was assigned Puthalapattu (SC) and Shirisha , a former Anganwadi worker in Rampachodavaram (ST), got an opportunity.

Guntur district Pedakurapadu seat went to real estate businessman Bhashyam Praveen.

Moreover, the selection of candidates also took into consideration the unique requests and preferences of local party leaders.

In the case of former MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, who sought candidacy in Rajamahendravaram Lok Sabha constituency, the TDP leadership received exceptional requests from both Gopalapuram (SC) and Kovvur (SC) constituencies.

Ultimately, Muppidi was selected as the candidate for Kovvuru, reflecting the rare recognition of a Dalit leader by two constituencies.
