TDP, buoyed by its victory in the general elections, has set its sights on the Nandigama municipality. The party, which achieved an undisputed victory in the state, is looking to take over this municipality for several strong reasons.

In the last election, YSRCP captured the Nandigama Municipal Council, which has 20 wards. YSRCP won 13 seats due to the lack of financial resources for TDP, coupled with the power advantage of YSRCP. TDP won six seats, and JanaSena won one. After Yakub Ali, who won in the sixth ward, joined YSRCP, TDP’s strength decreased to five, and YSRCP’s increased to 14.

Subsequently, the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson passed away, reducing YSRCP’s strength to 12. Currently, due to the TDP and JanaSena alliance, the strength in the council is equal. Now, the votes of Tangirala Soumya, who won as MLA on behalf of TDP, and Kesineni Sivanath, who won as MP, have added extra strength to TDP. With this, TDP has already gained control over the municipality.

Once the by-elections are held for the 11th and 7th wards, which were left vacant due to the deaths, the government will start the process of electing the chairperson. Confident from its recent victory, TDP is eager to secure both seats and appoint a member of their party as chairperson.
