TSRTC Bill On Hold: Reasons Cited By Governor

Tamilisai SoundararajanThe Telangana Government’s pending RTC Merger Bill with Governor Tamilisai has become a major topic of discussion in the state. The cabinet of CM KCR approved the merger of RTC (Road Transport Corporation) with the government, and RTC workers celebrated this decision, offering poojas to CM KCR’s photo.

However, the bill’s approval by the Governor has been put on hold, and she has sought clarification from the government on five points related to the RTC merger bill:

1. Lack of details about central grants, shares, loans, and other assistance provided to RTC since 1958.

2. Insufficient information on changing the status of RTC as per Schedule IX of the State Apportionment Act.

3. Questions about whether RTC employees will be treated at par with government employees and how their interests will be protected under industrial disputes and labor laws.

4. Clarity on whether all RTC employees will receive pensions and other benefits at par with government employees in the merger draft bill.

5. Details on how RTC employees will be ensured justice and receive benefits related to promotions and cadre normalization, considering the absence of posts like conductor and controller among government employees.

In response to the pending bill, the TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) called for a bandh, and RTC employees protested for two hours on Saturday morning. The bandh resulted in limited bus services as buses were limited to depots everywhere.

RTC trade unions also called for a siege of Raj Bhavan under BRS (Bus Route Stages) direction. The situation remains tense, awaiting further clarification and developments regarding the RTC Merger Bill.
