A disturbing incident has come to light involving an alleged assault on a woman travelling in the Visakha Express, raising fresh concerns about passenger safety on trains.

The victim, a married woman from Rentachintala in Palnadu district, was travelling with her husband. The couple had been living in Visakhapatnam for work. According to initial reports, an unidentified person allegedly moved her from a general coach to an AC coach during the journey, where the assault is said to have taken place on Sunday evening.

Following the incident, the victim filed a complaint with Rentachintala police. She was later shifted to Macherla Government Hospital for medical examination. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Shailaja personally spoke to the victim through a video call to understand the situation. She assured that strict action will be taken against the accused and directed police officials to conduct a thorough investigation.

The Commission also emphasized that the accused must face strong punishment and reviewed the case details with local police authorities.

Police teams are now working to identify and trace the suspect. The investigation is focused on collecting evidence, tracking the accused and ensuring the victim receives necessary support and protection.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over safety in train travel, especially in unreserved and long-distance journeys. It raises questions about the need for stronger security measures, better monitoring inside coaches and quicker response systems.
