AnTeRa was launched with the unique concept of bringing together the cuisines of Andhra, Telangana, and Rayalaseema under one roof. But this week, the restaurant suffered a major blow to its reputation.
A food safety inspection conducted by Cyberabad’s CMC Food Safety team at AnTeRa, Madeenaguda, triggered massive outrage on social media after inspectors reported multiple hygiene and food safety violations.
The findings surprised many diners because the restaurant positions itself as a premium dining destination and charges premium prices for its offerings. Customers often pay Rs. 175 for plain rice, Rs. 275 for curd rice, Rs. 375 for crispy corn, and significantly higher prices for many other dishes. That is why the inspection findings have left many shocked.
According to the official report, inspectors found mould growth on cauliflower and potatoes, cooking oil used for French fries that was unsuitable for further use, open dustbins near operational areas, and several food items stored without proper labels.
The inspection team also noted that medical fitness records of food handlers were unavailable and that water testing reports for water used in cooking and ice preparation were missing.
As an immediate measure, mould-affected vegetables and the unsuitable cooking oil were discarded on the spot. Authorities have also decided to issue an Improvement Notice to the establishment.
The news quickly went viral online.
Many social media users expressed anger, arguing that customers expect much higher standards from restaurants that position themselves as premium brands. Several described the situation as a classic case of “fancy outside, dirty inside.”
Others pointed out the irony that AnTeRa was meant to unite Andhra, Telangana, and Rayalaseema cuisines, but the inspection report ended up uniting Telugu social media in disgust instead.
Comments mocking the restaurant’s branding also flooded social media, with phrases like “AnTeRa…Idi Enti Ra?” gaining traction online.
It is important to note that the inspection did not result in the restaurant’s closure, and authorities observed both positive and negative aspects.
However, for many customers, the bigger issue is trust. When a restaurant positions itself as a premium dining experience, diners naturally expect superior quality, hygiene, and safety standards.
