Recently there have been allegations on OTT platforms for corrupting the young minds in society. There was a case in September 2023 where a 7-year-old boy sexually molested a 5-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh. It was claimed that the boy got inspired after watching sex scenes on OTT platforms.
In a recent development, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has urged the government to investigate and take action against the Ullu App for allegedly disseminating obscene and objectionable material.
Ullu App has gained popularity for its titillating, B-grade, semi-porn content featuring several B-grade models, a fact that has drawn widespread criticism from both the public and governmental bodies for its propagation of vulgarity and indecency.
Despite such backlash, there exists a considerable audience in India that actively seeks out such content. From titillating series like “Kavita Bhabhi” to “Charm Sukh” and “Palang Tod,” Ullu App boasts a catalog tailored to viewers with a penchant for desi eroticism.
It has approximately 2.8 million paid subscribers, mostly from tier-2 and tier-3 cities in the Hindi heartland.
NCPCR’s letter to the IT ministry highlighted concerns over the Ullu App’s accessibility on major mobile platforms without adequate age verification measures.
It cited complaints regarding the app’s explicit content targeting children, including scenes depicting sexual content involving school-aged characters.
The absence of proper age verification systems on such platforms was emphasized as a violation of child protection laws.
