Nightclubs Scandal

A viral video from Goa has reignited debates on discrimination in India’s tourism industry. Two Scottish men claimed they were granted free entry into a nightclub while Indian locals were left waiting outside. The video, shared on Instagram, shows them walking in without issue, bypassing a line of Indian patrons.

Of course, “Atithi Devo Bhava,” right? Because what better way to honor guests than by treating your own people like second-class citizens?

This isn’t an isolated incident. Many clubs and resorts in Goa are known to prefer foreign tourists over Indians. Some argue this is due to past misbehavior by a few Indian visitors.

But punishing an entire group based on the actions of a few is nothing but discrimination. If rowdy behavior is the problem, then stricter entry rules should apply to everyone and not just Indians.

What’s even more troubling is how many people defend this. Online comments reveal a deep-rooted colonial hangover, where foreigners are welcomed with open arms while Indians are treated with suspicion. This mindset not only hurts national pride but also discourages domestic tourism, which is crucial for Goa’s economy.

The nightclub has yet to respond, but this issue is bigger than one venue. Until Indian businesses start valuing their own people as much as they do foreign tourists, such incidents will continue and they shouldn’t.
