Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir will retain control of Godrej Industries, comprising five listed firms, while cousins Jamshyd and Smita will oversee Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates, alongwith a substantial land bank, including prime Mumbai property.
The split, announced by the Godrej Group, divides ownership between the two branches of the founding family.
Pirojsha Godrej, Adi’s son, will succeed Nadir as GIG’s chairperson in August 2026.
The split aims to streamline operations and maximize long-term value for shareholders. Both groups will continue using the Godrej brand.
Godrej & Boyce, controlled by Jamshyd and Smita’s families, holds a significant land bank, including 3,400 acres in Mumbai. The Vikhroli property alone has a development potential estimated at over ₹1 lakh crore.
The split represents a shift in ownership to align with the differing visions of family members.
Jamshyd emphasized the commitment to nation-building and growth, leveraging engineering and innovation strengths, while Nadir highlighted the company’s enduring values and legacy of community development.
