In a dramatic incident in Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi, a groom’s ₹14.5 lakh currency garland which was made up entirely of ₹500 notes was stolen by armed robbers during a wedding ceremony. The extravagant garland, comprising 3,000 notes, had been rented from Haryana for the event.
The incident took place on June 2, 2025, in Udhanwas village under the Chopanki police station area of Khairthal-Tijara district.
After the groom wore the garland during the wedding, two individuals were tasked with returning it. However, while they were riding back on a motorcycle, a car intercepted them. The attackers rammed the bike, assaulted one of the men, and fled with the garland.
According to police, the robbery occurred in broad daylight and appeared to be well-planned. Authorities suspect an insider may have tipped off the criminals.
Joint teams from Chopanki police station, Alwar district, and Haryana police are examining CCTV footage and conducting raids. As of now, the culprits remain unidentified, but officials have promised swift arrests.
The incident has stirred public reaction, especially on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
One user commented, “This is a lesson for people who indulge in such show-offs.” Others questioned the relevance and safety of such lavish wedding customs. Some even mocked the situation, calling the loss “deserved.”
This incident also casts a spotlight on law and order in the region, which has seen major heists in recent years, including a ₹1 crore bank robbery in 2022 and a jewelry store heist in 2024.
