Filmmaker Karan Johar recently shared a shocking story of a famous Bollywood actress who lost 82,000 to fraudsters posing as sellers on Instagram.

The actress was preparing for an international film festival and found an Instagram ad for a designer gown.

Originally priced at 4.5 lakh, it was being offered at 82,000. Too good to be true? Maybe.

But the scammers did their job well, responded quickly and sent detailed images to make the offer seem legit.

With the “last piece available” urgency, she transferred the amount via UPI only to realize she was duped. No gown. No response. Just a dead end.

The fraudsters disappeared, leaving her with nothing but regret. If a big actress can get scammed, what about regular buyers?

Online scams are evolving, preying on the trust and impulsiveness of buyers. Social media is a hunting ground for fraudsters and flashy discounts blind people to the risks. Are we too quick to trust online sellers?

The best defense? Caution. Always verify sellers, check reviews and avoid deals that seem unreal.

If something feels too perfect, it probably is. Because in the digital world, the biggest bargain might just be the biggest trap.
