Male Contraceptive Pills in Market

Male contraceptive pills YCT-529 launch

In a revolutionary step, men may soon have access to contraceptive pills. Until now, women have largely carried the burden of birth control using methods like pills, tubectomy, and copper loops, which often caused hormonal changes and other side effects in their bodies.

Women using contraceptives frequently face hormonal imbalance, weight gain, mood swings, and related health issues. To address these concerns, YourChoice Therapeutics is launching male contraceptive pills under the name YCT-529, offering an alternative that shifts part of the responsibility to men.

The pill recently completed testing on 16 men, with no side effects reported. According to the company, the pill blocked the RARa protein essential for sperm production, without affecting testosterone levels or causing mood swings or other health complications.

The YCT-529 pill works for 51 to 76 hours and can be taken every three days. If it clears remaining regulatory approvals, it could enter the market before 2030, joining vasectomy as one of the few male contraception options.

Researchers believe this new pill will be a major benefit for women. By sharing contraceptive responsibility more equally, it could change how couples approach family planning and reduce the health risks women currently face from long-term contraceptive use.
