Murderer Turns Victim: Dead Wife Returns

A man from Karnataka spent one-and-a-half years in jail for his wife’s “murder,” only for her to walk into court alive.

The Mysuru court, shocked by the turn of events, criticized the police for a flawed investigation and ordered a fresh probe. The case revolves around Kurubara Suresha, who reported his wife, Mallige, missing in December 2020.

Nine months later, the Bettadapura police found a woman’s body and allegedly coerced Suresha into accepting it as his wife’s, making him the prime accused in the murder case.

The court trial continued for over two years before Mallige was brought before the judge on April 2, 2025, revealing the wrongful charges against Suresha.

The judge questioned the lack of digital or scientific evidence linking the unidentified body to Mallige and slammed the police for relying only on clothing and bangles to establish identity. The police also claimed Suresha had confessed, but his father alleged coercion and torture.

The court directed the Mysuru Superintendent of Police to investigate and report by April 17.

Mallige was sent to a rehabilitation home for four days while her statement was recorded. Meanwhile, Suresha’s family has demanded strict action against the officers responsible and compensation for his wrongful imprisonment.
