Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, is working on allowing international payments using the Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
This means people using WhatsApp in India might soon be able to send money abroad through the app.
This feature will let users turn it on or off in their bank account settings on WhatsApp. They can send payments to businesses in other countries.
A preview of this feature was found in WhatsApp’s settings, labeled “International payments.”
WhatsApp is still developing this feature and it’s not available yet. Other apps like PhonePe and Google Pay already offer similar international payment options.
In India, WhatsApp already lets people send and receive money using UPI, but it’s behind other apps in offering international payments.
The screenshots of the new feature suggest users can set a time limit for how long international payments will be active, up to three months.
Right now, this feature is still being worked on, so it’s not available for everyone.
