Internal Crack in BCB: Pak’s Involvement in WC Drama?

Salahuddin on T20 World Cup row

Mohammad Salahuddin, senior assistant coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, has levelled serious allegations against former sports advisor Asif Nazrul over the team’s absence from the T20 World Cup in India. His remarks have sparked fresh debate across the cricketing community.

Salahuddin claimed that Nazrul misled the public about the reasons behind Bangladesh not travelling to India. He said the explanation given earlier was not truthful. His sharp reaction has brought the controversy back into the spotlight.

Expressing deep disappointment, Salahuddin said he was shocked by what he described as blatant lies. He questioned how such statements could come from a teacher at Dhaka University. He added that it has become difficult for him to face the players after such developments.

Earlier, Nazrul had stated that the decision to skip the World Cup was taken by the government. Later, he reportedly changed his stand and called it a joint decision involving the BCB and the players. This U turn has drawn criticism from within cricket circles.

Salahuddin further revealed that two players suffered severe emotional distress after missing the tournament due to political reasons. He described their condition as similar to a mental coma. He said it was remarkable that they recovered and returned to play in the ongoing ODOMMO Cup.

There are also claims that Mohsin Naqvi was personally involved in influencing the Bangladeshi government. Reports suggest attempts were made to create unnecessary controversy around a multilateral tournament like the World Cup. However, no official confirmation has been issued.

The episode has added strain to regional cricketing ties. Critics argue that such incidents damage the spirit of international sport. It now remains to be seen how Bangladesh positions itself in the evolving global cricket landscape.
