Ravi Bishnoi is shocked by the sudden retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket. For fans and teammates, seeing them walk away without a proper on-field farewell feels like a missed moment in Indian cricket history.
Bishnoi on Kohli and Rohit’s Retirement
Kohli and Sharma played their last Test in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand, where they helped India secure its second ICC title in nine months. Soon after, both announced their retirement from Tests, leaving a huge gap in the team.
Bishnoi expressed his concern, asking, “Who will fill the two empty spots left by such legends?” He believes the Indian team, now transitioning under Shubman Gill, is facing challenges during this change.
A Shocking Exit for Legends
Speaking on the Game Changers podcast, Bishnoi said, “It’s shocking because you always want to see them retire on the field. For such big legends, retiring while still playing looks much better. No one can match what they’ve done for India.”
He also hoped both cricketers would receive a proper farewell in ODIs whenever they decide to quit completely. According to him, no farewell can truly capture the impact Kohli and Sharma have had on Indian cricket.
Bishnoi’s Struggles Continue
Bishnoi is also facing a difficult phase in his career. He was not included in the Asia Cup squad and last represented India in February 2025. Once ranked as the No.1 T20I bowler, he has struggled to maintain his form.
Even in IPL 2025, playing for Lucknow Super Giants, he managed only 9 wickets in 11 matches. His teammate Digvesh Rathi overshadowed him with 14 wickets at an economy of 8.25. This raises the question of whether a new era of young Indian players is taking shape.
What Lies Ahead for Indian Cricket?
While Kohli and Sharma continue to play ODIs and prepare for a 3-match series against Australia in October, their sudden Test retirement leaves fans wondering.
Will Indian cricket ever see a proper farewell for two of its greatest players? And who will step up to fill the massive void they have left behind as Shubman Gill leads the team into the future?
