
There are very few Indian cricketers who enjoyed demigod status amongst the followers, and two of them are Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. Both of them lead remarkable careers in Indian cricket and things have been fairly positive for them in their careers.
However, when it comes to the retirement timeline, it needs to be said that Sachin Tendulkar was far more mature and intelligent about his choice.

Sachin retired from all formats of Cricket at a time when he was still desires and loved by all. This essentially meant that everyone valued his retirement unconditionally.
But in the case of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the situation is turning out to be the exact opposite. When he retired from international cricket, he picked the right time as he quit the sport when people felt he had more in him. This is exactly how he should have retired as well.

But when it comes to IPL cricket, it needs to be said that Dhoni has a largely overstayed his welcome. After witnessing a peak following and mad reception in IPL over the years, Dhoni is now appearing to become a burden for Chennai.
Even until last year, Dhoni used to command a huge amount of following and unconditional love from fans.

But that is not even remotely the case now as Dhoni is being targeted by own fans as well. There are several videos of CSK fans outside the Chennai Stadium, where they are calling for Dhoni’s retirement as he is eating up the space in the side while not contributing with the bat.
A few people are saying that Dhoni is doing it, just for the fun of it as he wants to suck in all the mass appeal and anticipation that he has. But in terms of game returns, Dhoni is largely lacking, and this is perhaps understandable considering that he is 43 already.
There is this increasing demand from fans for Dhoni’s retirement from IPL. They are asking him to hang up the boots, and the time has come for his retirement.
At the heart of it, it needs to be understood that Dhoni is a great visual optic for the IPL and he brings a lot of spectatorship. But in terms of game mechanics, he is not at his best at 43 years of age.
As former Indian cricketer, Dinesh Karthik pointed out a player’s retirement must bring a question of “Why” rather than “When”.
