The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a bold decision by scheduling the Pakistan Super League (PSL) directly against the Indian Premier League (IPL). This move sets up a clear clash with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the peak cricket season.
PSL 2026 Dates Overlap IPL Window
The 11th season of the PSL will be held from March 26 to May 3 next year. These dates fall right in the middle of the IPL season. This is the second year in a row that the PCB has opted for overlapping schedules.
Mohsin Naqvi Announces Schedule in New York
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced the PSL 2026 schedule during a roadshow in New York. He confirmed that Pakistan’s international calendar would be adjusted to ensure the PSL goes ahead during the IPL window.
Bangladesh Tour Creates Scheduling Pressure
Pakistan is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in March and April. The tour includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. Managing this series alongside the PSL will be a major challenge for the PCB.
T20 World Cup Adds to Calendar Crunch
The situation becomes more complicated with the T20 World Cup set for February to early March in India and Sri Lanka. This leaves very little room for international commitments before the PSL begins.
Possible Changes to Pakistan’s Overseas Commitments
With PSL and IPL running simultaneously, the PCB may be forced to delay or shorten the Bangladesh tour. This will not be easy, as Bangladesh is also planning a tour of New Zealand during the same period.
Fans Set for Dual-League Action
While the scheduling remains uncertain, fans could enjoy IPL and PSL matches running side by side. The PSL is also expected to feature several players who miss out on IPL contracts, adding its own appeal.
