How Shubman Gill Forced England to Stand Up & Clap!

Shubman Gill Impresses England

This isn’t about a hundred. This is about the kind of knock that makes the opposition nod in respect.

Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 114 on Day 1 of the 2nd Test vs England wasn’t loud but it was loud enough to reach the English dressing room.

First, Ben Stokes backed Rishabh Pant. Now, Chris Woakes is giving Gill his due. That says a lot. Because when the rival side starts praising you, you’re clearly doing something right.

India were 211/5. Pressure was on. The tail was around the corner. But Gill stayed calm. Alongside Jadeja, he put together an unbroken 99-run stand to take India to 310/5 at stumps.

Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone earlier with a stylish 87 but it was Gill who held the fort when it could have gone downhill. England tried. Woakes got two wickets. But even he admitted it wasn’t enough.

“We were close to getting him a couple of times… but he looked in control,” Woakes said post-match.

Stokes chose to bowl first again. It’s the 10th time he’s done it after winning a toss at home. Woakes said the pitch had grass and they expected movement.

But India had other plans. Jaiswal gave them a strong start. Then came the middle-order slump.

But Gill, with the maturity of a leader, soaked up the pressure. England’s plan to have India 300/7 didn’t work. And now with Jadeja still in, India look well ahead.

What’s happening here is bigger than one day, one scorecard or one Test. This is about a shift. India’s new leaders Gill, Pant, Jaiswal aren’t here to make noise online.

They’re making noise where it counts. On the field. And when guys like Stokes and Woakes praise you, that’s when the outside hate and cheap criticism starts to fade. These players aren’t talking. They’re just showing up and delivering.

India’s next-gen isn’t demanding respect. They’re earning it. Slowly, surely and under pressure. Gill’s 114* is not just a hundred it’s a statement.

That the future is here. And it’s not asking for hype. It’s letting the bat, the calm and the courage do all the talking.

Let the doubters shout. Let the rivals clap. Because this new Indian core is building something real and the world is beginning to notice.
