
There is no doubt about the fact that the Indian team currently playing in England is still comparatively very young.
So it was not wrong of Captain Gill when he came up to the forefront and said that he was proud of the team for a performance like this despite the misfields and dropped catches.

However, people missed something in that address which used to be there during the reign of previous captains until a few years ago.
And that thing is responsibility. For quite a while now we haven’t seen Indian captains take the stage and take responsibility for their team by saying, “I’m responsible for this loss.”

While it’s not necessarily the full fault of the captain, taking responsibility, however symbolic, instills confidence into the public that there is accountability in the team.
It will be interesting to see if such practices can return to the team so that we can start seeing captains spearheading their teams through thick and thin once again.
