The battle for the creator’s badge has been ongoing for a long time, pitting human creation against the creation of Artificial Intelligence, and the human side is now on the verge of retaliation.
In various lawsuits, writers, illustrators, and other creators have expressed concerns that both the utilization of their work for AI system training and the content generated by these systems infringe upon their rights.
On Thursday, Google announced its commitment to support individuals using generative artificial intelligence systems within its Google Cloud and Workspace platforms when they face allegations of intellectual property infringement. This move aligns with the steps taken by Microsoft, Adobe, and other companies that have also made such promises.
Now, Google is establishing itself as a major player in AI and is reacting defensively in terms of technology development. They are using the works of prominent creators, and allegations of infringement are emerging, sometimes without any form of payment or agreement.
The creators are also concerned that these actions infringe upon their rights.
A Google spokesperson mentioned that, to the best of their knowledge, Google has introduced a unique, two-pronged approach to indemnity that covers both types of claims.
Sources also mention that Google’s new policy covers software, including Vertex AI and Duet AI, but doesn’t mention Bard, the well-known generative AI chatbot.
