Guided by a five-year plan outlined in a report by an expert team from IIT-Bombay, the mission will be overseen by a committee led by the chief secretary. The mission’s headquarters, as per the notification by the higher and technical education department, will be located at IIT-B.

The Maharashtra Drone Mission aspires to position the state as a global drone hub, according to the official notification. The IIT-B report, which garnered government approval, underscores the applications of drones in emergency medicine and vaccine delivery, supporting rescue operations during natural disasters, and assessing disaster impacts for effective preventive measures.

The IIT-B report suggests the utilization of drones for surveillance, traffic management, law enforcement, and various applications in agriculture. The government emphasizes adherence to the Centre’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft guidelines.

The Maharashtra Drone Mission plans to establish a headquarters at IIT-B, along with six regional centers and 12 district-level centers, all equipped with essential facilities.
