IndiGo Conquering Europe with Historic Flights

IndiGo has officially launched its direct flight service between Mumbai and Amsterdam, marking a significant expansion of its international network.

The service, announced on July 2, is the airline’s second long-haul route launched within just two days, following the start of Mumbai to Manchester flights.

The new Mumbai-Amsterdam route will operate three times a week using IndiGo’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. This aircraft features a two-class configuration with 56 IndiGoStretch business class seats and 282 economy seats.

IndiGo’s expansion to Amsterdam is part of a broader plan to introduce direct flights to several major international cities, including London and Athens.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is one of the busiest in the world and serves as a major hub for travel across Europe, North America and Canada.

IndiGo says this new route will significantly enhance connectivity for Indian travelers heading to these regions. It will also allow international passengers easier access to IndiGo’s network of over 90 destinations across India.

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers stated that this new service strengthens cultural, economic and diplomatic ties between India and the Netherlands.

The airline emphasized that the route is designed to support both leisure and business travelers, as well as students flying between the two countries.

To support its growing long-haul operations, IndiGo has partnered with Norwegian low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic Airways to damp lease six Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled through 2026, with the first aircraft joining the fleet earlier this year in March.

With this move, IndiGo continues its push to position itself as a truly global carrier while keeping international travel affordable and efficient for Indian passengers.
