Southwest Priority Fare Scam? No Perks Given

Southwest Airlines Priority Fare Scam

A recent passenger experience shared on Reddit has drawn sharp criticism toward Southwest Airlines, calling out misleading fare descriptions, disorganized service, and a lack of accountability.

The traveler, who had booked “Anytime” tickets for a flight from Houston to St. Louis, expected a relatively smooth journey. That optimism quickly vanished.

The passenger specifically chose the higher-tier fare for its advertised perks: priority check-in, Express TSA access, and same-day flight changes.

Upon arrival, however, airport staff denied them access to the priority check-in line, claiming it was reserved only for A-List or Business Select customers. The staff member refused to offer an explanation or assistance.

Later, a miscommunication regarding the baggage allowance added to the frustration. Although the tickets were purchased before Southwest’s policy changes, the traveler was told they could only check one bag.

To avoid losing expensive bottles of vanilla extract in TSA screening, the passenger paid to check a bag, only to discover that it should have been free all along.

Adding insult to injury, customer support later claimed that “priority” on the ticket only referred to early bird check-in, contradicting the airline’s own website, which lists priority check-in as a benefit of the fare.

Despite contacting Southwest over 64 hours ago, the passenger has yet to receive a response.

The incident reflects poorly on the airline’s transparency and customer service. Once known for its friendly service and no-frills reliability, Southwest is increasingly viewed as confusing, inconsistent, and overpriced. This is but just another blow to Southwest’s dwindling reputation.
