After Decades, UK Honours Indian Spy Princess

Noor-Inayat-Khan

The British Government has honored the life of an Indian origin spy during the second world war by naming a housing block after her. The British Indian spy Noor Inayat Khan worked as an undercover radio operator for Britain’s Special Operations Executive. She is famously recognised as the Spy Princess.

A housing block in Camden has been named Noor Inayat Khan House after a vote by the residents of the block. Camden is where Noor lived with her family before being sent to Nazi occupied France. Noor is a descendant of the Indian ruler Tipu Sultan.

The ceremony was attended by the local MP and the opposition leader. Noor’s biographer Shrabani Basu was also present on the occasion. Her book ‘Spy Princess: The Life Of Noor Inayat Khan’ is a biography based on Noor’s life.

Noor was shot dead when she was only 30 at Dachau Concentration Camp in 1944. Earlier in 2020, a Blue Plaque was unveiled by the English Heritage charity to commemorate her life.
