Faith shapes identity and deserves respect. When a leader insults another religion, it hurts followers and fuels division. Alexander Duncan, Republican candidate for the Texas Senate, sparked outrage after targeting Lord Hanuman in a public video.
In Sugar Land, Texas, a 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman was recently installed at the Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple. Soon after, Duncan called Hanuman a “false God” and declared Texas a Christian nation. His words immediately drew sharp reactions.
He shared Bible verses to defend his remarks. Many people, including interfaith and civil rights groups, found this deeply offensive. They condemned the statement and warned it spreads hate instead of unity.
The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) strongly opposed his comments. They labelled them anti-Hindu and filed a complaint with the Texas Republican Party. They demanded accountability and strict action against him.
America protects freedom of religion. Every person has the right to worship with dignity. Leaders are expected to unite diverse communities. This incident reminds you why respecting every faith matters in a democratic society.
