Indian Doc in NJ Faces Severe Jail for Greed

Indian Doctor Caught

Healthcare fraud is a huge problem, causing harm to medical services and using up resources meant for public programs.

Recently, a jury found Dr. Adarsh Gupta from New Jersey guilty of being part of a Medicare fraud scheme. This case shows how fraudulent practices can harm the healthcare system.

Dr. Gupta, an India-based doctor, was convicted of tricking Medicare into paying $5.4 million for orthotic braces that weren’t needed.

He worked with telemarketers to convince Medicare patients to accept these braces, even when they didn’t need them.

Gupta would then quickly prescribe the braces after short phone calls with the patients.

This scheme targeted people who could be easily persuaded, exploiting them and damaging trust in real healthcare services.

What makes it worse is that Gupta didn’t properly assess or diagnose patients. He even prescribed braces for conditions that clearly didn’t require them.

Gupta’s conviction is a big step in fighting healthcare fraud. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for each fraud count and five years for false statements.
