According to the recent report of The Guardian, popular self-help podcaster Jay Shetty faces scrutiny due to inconsistencies in his life story and allegations of plagiarism.
The former Hindu monk, who is known for his bestseller “Think Like A Monk” and his podcasts featuring celebrities like Michelle Obama and Kim Kardashian, is now under the spotlight.
The report points out inconsistencies in Shetty’s spiritual journey, particularly about his time as a monk. He has been accused of misrepresenting details about his college days and the events leading to his decision of becoming a monk. Conflicting accounts and different time periods given by Shetty in his stories raise questions about the credibility of his past statements.
Furthermore, allegations of plagiarising content have resurfaced. Shetty was previously accused by social media influencer Nicole Arbour in 2019 of using content without proper credit. This led to Shetty deleting over 100 posts.
While he now attributes content to original creators on Instagram, concerns are still being raised about whether he seeks permission or compensates creators for using their work.
The Guardian’s report also casts a shadow on Shetty’s coaching school, the Jay Shetty Certification School. The school, charging $7,400 per term for “Postgraduate Diploma (Level 7) qualifications,” claims affiliations with universities, but these affiliations have been denied by the universities themselves. The school’s accreditation is also in question, as Ofqual, the UK’s government exams watchdog, refuses to be legally involved.
