A techie on an H-1B visa was recently fired after allegedly facing months of workplace abuse.
Taking to social media, he claims he was hired for an engineering role but was forced to do manual labor, pressured into falsifying timesheets, and made to take unpaid leave, which violates core H-1B rules. When he spoke up and tried to file a complaint against his senior, he was allegedly fired.
Worse, his medical issues were reportedly ignored. He was yelled at, harassed, and blocked from any real career growth.
And now, after doing the right thing by raising concerns he’s out of a job with the 60-day visa countdown already ticking.
He has already filed a complaint with the Department of Labor, but no lawyer is willing to take on the case. Even civil rights attorneys seem hesitant.
The main reason is that, for H-1B techies, abuse rarely leads to justice. The burden of proof is high, and they don’t have much time on their hands. The system is rigged in favor of employers.
Fellow H-1B holders, in the comments, echo the same sentiment. This kind of treatment has sadly become the norm and many are living this nightmare.
H-1Bs are used as disposable labor. People say that the only reason the visa exists is because it allows employers to control workers with fear.
