A British court has ruled that phone hacking at MGN went on for more than a decade and was directed against prince harry’s phone. The Duke of Sussex who testified in person received around 1.5 crores as damages for intruding into his personal life.
The court learned that MGN reporters tapped into Prince Harry’s voicemail messages, tracked his movements, and acquired secret information on him and his previous girlfriend Chelsy Davy. The hacking covered a period starting from 1996 when Prince Harry was a teenager up to 2010 when he had become a young adult.
The judge stated that MGN was “reprehensible” and “calculated to maximise commercial gain”. He further stated that Prince Harry had “substantial distress, hurt and anger” as a result of the hacks.
This revelation is as shocking as it is frightening. If people like Prince Harry are not safe from privacy breach, how safe is a common person’s data is, only god knows.
Prince Harry is one of the celebrities who have taken MGN to court over phone hacking. Others are, Cheryl, George Michael, Ricky Tomlinson and Ian Wright. Prince harry sued his former employer, MGN, for hacking into his phone and published the information.
