Mirzapur has been one of the most iconic Indian web series in recent years. Season 1 was a massive hit, filled with powerful performances and unforgettable characters like Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), and Munna Tripathi (Divyendu Sharma).
The show’s gritty storytelling and intense drama made it a fan favourite almost instantly. Season 2 was also received well, even if it couldn’t quite match the magic of the first.

But things changed with Season 3. While it still got huge viewership numbers, the response from fans was very mixed — and in many cases, negative. The main reason behind this backlash was the shift in focus towards Golu, played by Shweta Tripathi.
Her character, who started off as a quiet and intelligent girl in the earlier seasons, was suddenly shown leading the game like a gangster. Many viewers found this transition unconvincing.

Her performance, despite her efforts, didn’t feel natural in such a dominant role. It came across as forced and didn’t fit the tone of the show.
The absence of Munna also left a big void. His wild and unpredictable energy was a big reason why Mirzapur stood out. Without him, and with Golu taking the spotlight, many felt the show had lost its charm.

Now, with Shweta hinting at a July 2025 release for Season 4 and even a Mirzapur film, expectations are high again.
But this time, the makers need to pay attention to what the audience actually wants, more focus on powerful, original characters and less on forced narratives. If they repeat the same mistakes, the viewership and love the series once enjoyed might not return.
