Stranger Things Lives On? New Netflix Projects Out

Duffer Brothers new Netflix projects

Stranger Things has officially concluded, and attention has now shifted to what creators Matt and Ross Duffer plan to do next. The series may be over, but the universe built around it continues to expand in new directions.

The Duffer Brothers are currently developing multiple projects under their Upside Down Pictures banner. These upcoming titles signal Netflix’s continued investment in the creative team behind one of its biggest global hits.

Leading the slate is Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an animated series set between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original show. It is scheduled for release in 2026 and revisits Hawkins during the winter of 1985.

The animated series will reportedly follow familiar characters as they face new monsters and a fresh paranormal mystery. According to the Duffer brothers, animation allows for a broader and more imaginative exploration of the Stranger Things universe.

Another major project is The Boroughs, an eight-episode drama set in a retirement community in the New Mexico desert. The story centres on a group of older residents who must unite to stop an otherworldly threat.

The Boroughs is created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, with the Duffer brothers serving as executive producers. The project marks a shift in setting while retaining supernatural elements.

Also in development is Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, a horror series focused on a bride and groom in the week before their ill-fated wedding. The concept leans into psychological tension and impending doom.

The series is written by Haley Z. Boston and produced by the Duffers. While Stranger Things has ended, its creators have ensured their presence on Netflix continues through new stories and formats.
