At the 75th anniversary celebration of Navbharat Times, Aryan Khan received the Best Debutant Director of the Year award. The honour recognised his Netflix series The Bads of Bollywood. The award was presented by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The presence of Devendra Fadnavis added political attention to what was primarily an industry honour. Aryan Khan’s debut series was released on Netflix on September 18. It positioned itself as a satirical take on the Hindi film industry.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, owned by Gauri Khan, the show featured Bobby Deol, Mona Singh and Manoj Pahwa. The ensemble cast contributed to its strong visibility. The series also entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 for non English titles.
This was not Aryan Khan’s first recognition for the project. He had earlier won Debutant Director of the Year at the NDTV Indian of the Year awards in 2025. These honours strengthened his standing as a filmmaker.
Together, the awards mark his entry into direction as institutionally recognised rather than purely celebrity driven. Industry observers believe the success has given him credibility beyond his family background. The measurable viewership added to the impact.
The latest recognition also carries symbolic weight. Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan, faced intense scrutiny during the 2021 cruise ship case. Many had viewed that period as politically charged for the actor and his family.
With a state government led by the BJP publicly felicitating him, the moment highlights the evolving relationship between Bollywood and political power in Maharashtra. Beyond symbolism, the award ultimately reflects a debut that achieved strong attention and global reach.
