The Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi starrer Haq has been drawing strong reactions from people across political lines. Viewers are discussing its performances, cinematic appeal, and the political message it carries.
Despite the buzz, Haq has failed at the box office, earning only about ₹10 crore in four days. The film collected ₹1.85 crore on Friday, ₹3.35 crore on Saturday, ₹3.75 crore on Sunday, and ₹1.05 crore on Monday.
For Emraan Hashmi, this marks his 18th consecutive flop as a lead actor. Fans also noted that Yami Gautam missed a potential hat-trick of hits, following her recent successes with OMG 2 and Article 370.
Some viewers mocked the film’s poor performance, saying even the right wing didn’t support its “propaganda.” Many believe Haq’s narrative which promotes the Uniform Civil Code, credits the current government for Shah Bano’s justice, and received praise from right-wing leaders clearly aligns with a right-wing ideology.
Even with political backing, Haq failed to connect with audiences or deliver strong numbers. Similar outcomes were seen with The Bengal Files, Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi, and The Taj Story all politically endorsed but commercially unsuccessful.
Audiences today seem more discerning, often rejecting films that feel overtly political or agenda-driven, choosing instead stories that feel genuine and balanced.
