A film has not even reached audiences yet, but the conversation around it has already moved beyond cinema.
The India Story, which is scheduled to release on July 24, 2026, has become one of the most discussed films of the year.
The film recently received its CBFC clearance with a U/A 16+ certificate, but only after more than 20 modifications were ordered by the censor board.
According to reports, the changes include removing 4 minutes and 27 seconds of footage and adding a 50-second disclaimer at both the beginning and end of the film.
The makers were also asked to modify several dialogues and references considered politically and socially sensitive.
One of the biggest changes reportedly involves the film’s references to farmers.
The CBFC has asked the makers to reduce farmer-related content to a great extent by bringing references down from around 65% to 25%.
Several dialogues connected to the farming community were also modified or removed, including references such as “Kisaan aatankvadi” and “Sarkar deshdrohi”.
A dialogue reportedly highlighting farmers as “annadata” was removed, along with another dialogue connected to allegations against farmers.
The film’s references to issues such as the Endosulfan tragedy, chemical contamination, fake milk, the so-called Cancer Train and courtroom discussions were also altered.
The extensive modifications have added another layer of debate around a film that was already attracting attention because of its subject.
The trailer of The India Story created strong reactions online when it was released.
Unlike conventional social dramas, the trailer appeared to rely heavily on news footage, statistics and visuals connected to chemical contamination in food and public health concerns.
Many viewers and critics described the trailer as uncomfortable, direct and focused on real issues.
The performances have also become a major talking point.
Kajal Aggarwal, who plays Advocate Archana, has received attention for her intense courtroom presence and dialogue delivery.
After a relatively quiet phase in her career, the film could become an important project for the actress if it connects with audiences.
Shreyas Talpade, playing Yogesh Patil, has also received positive reactions.
Presented by Zee Studios and produced by Sagar B Shinde, The India Story will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
