Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Param Sundari opened with strong pre-release buzz, but the excitement has not fully translated into box office numbers. Despite being backed by Maddock Films, the film’s first-day performance fell below industry expectations.
The production house is facing criticism for promoting average films as major successes. Industry observers say the gap between Maddock’s claims and the film’s actual performance is damaging its credibility, with allegations of inflated figures now resurfacing once again.
Reports suggest Maddock may have used self-booking to push numbers higher, a strategy earlier linked to films like Chhaava, Sky Force, and Bhool Chuk Maaf. Box Office India and other outlets placed Param Sundari’s opening at Rs 8-10 crore, but trade insiders say it barely touched Rs 6 crore.
This discrepancy has sparked heated debate online. Some audiences accuse Maddock of inflating numbers, while others argue that Rs 6 crore is reasonable for a film of this cast and genre. The divided opinions have raised concerns about trust in Maddock’s box office claims.
Despite mixed reactions, the film has been reported to earn Rs 7.37 crore on its opening day, surpassing Bhool Chuk Maaf, Teri Baahon Mein Aisa Ulja Jiya, and Dhadak 2. This makes Param Sundari the second-highest opener after Saiyaara’s 22 crore.
Trade analysts suggest waiting before drawing conclusions. For now, Param Sundari’s appeal lies in the chemistry of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, supported by vibrant visuals and music-driven hype, though strong word-of-mouth and consistent box office growth remain uncertain.
