Madhavan Questioned After Dhurandhar: Why Hypocrisy?

R Madhavan in Dhurandhar film still

R. Madhavan’s latest film Dhurandhar has become one of the highest-grossing films of the year. It has crossed 350 crore in just 11 days. While you see widespread praise for the film and his performance, criticism from fans has also surfaced.

Many fans point out that R. Madhavan lives in Dubai with his family. They say he visits India only once every few months to shoot films, most of them patriotic, and then speaks at length about nationalism during promotions.

Fans argue that actors who speak strongly about nationalism do not spend enough time living in the country. According to them, staying away limits how well someone understands daily life in India and the challenges people face here.

They clarify that the anger is not about choosing to live abroad. What upsets them is returning only when it suits film schedules, often for nationalist films, and then leaving again to live a comfortable life elsewhere.

In Madhavan’s case, fans highlight Dhurandhar and Kesari: Chapter 2, both released this year. They call it hypocritical when he speaks about loyalty to the nation while living outside the country.

Fans say you cannot fully relate to life in India without living it daily. They mention air pollution, broken roads, and the direct impact of government decisions. Supporting the country from abroad, they say, is easier than living here and still standing by it.

Some fans go further and claim loyalty for many actors lies with fame, not the country. They believe actors align with whichever government benefits their careers, using nationalism as a tool to stay relevant.

They even say Bollywood stars have turned into flatterers rather than voices of truth. While fans accept that actors may live abroad for family safety, they insist such actors should avoid speaking as if they fully represent people’s lived realities.
