Tanu Weds Manu 3, the much-awaited sequel to the 2011 and 2015 films, has hit a roadblock after reports revealed uncertainty over its future. The update shocked fans, especially since director Aanand L. Rai had just confirmed plans for the third film.
However, the producers Eros International challenged his claim this week by issuing a public notice. According to them, they hold sole and exclusive rights to Tanu Weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and any unauthorised sequel attempt would be treated as illegal.
This dispute has created confusion about who owns the rights to continue the journey of Tanu and Manu, played by Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan. Fans are left disappointed, as the conflict delays what could have been Kangana’s big comeback in the franchise.
The notice also reflects a larger pattern of clashes between Aanand L. Rai and Eros International. Recently, Aanand criticised Eros for rereleasing Raanjhanaa with an AI-altered ending without his consent. Eros also objected to him linking Tere Ishq Mein to Raanjhanaa for promotions.
The tug-of-war suggests that Tanu Weds Manu will not move ahead until these disputes are resolved. Yet, fans can still hold onto hope, as the notice indirectly confirms that new franchise plans exist, even if production is blocked for now.
