Jiiva’s Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil (TTT), directed by Nithish Sahadev, released in theatres on January 15 as a Pongal special. The film received highly positive responses from both audiences and critics, quickly emerging as one of the most talked-about releases of the festive season.
Due to its strong word of mouth and weak performance of other Pongal releases, TTT dominated the box office. Reports suggest the film was made on a budget of just 10 crores and has earned over 40 crores worldwide, making it a major profit-maker.
Following this success, strong speculation has emerged that Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor has acquired the remake rights. Reports claim he is planning a Hindi adaptation, although there has been no official confirmation regarding the project or its casting.
Despite the lack of clarity, several netizens have begun speculating about the lead actor. Many online comments suggest Akshay Kumar or Ajay Devgn could step into Jiiva’s role, as both stars have previously featured in multiple remake projects.
At the same time, a section of the audience feels the film may not translate well into Hindi. They believe TTT succeeded mainly due to its light-hearted comedy and simple screenplay, which could be altered in a large-scale Bollywood remake.
Concerns have also been raised that adding excessive scale could dilute the film’s core charm. Viewers fear this approach may affect the narrative and lead to an outcome very different from the original Tamil version.
As of now, there have been no official announcements regarding a Hindi remake. It remains to be seen whether Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil will be remade and who will take on the lead role and direction if the project moves forward.
