Universal Studios failed Christopher Nolan and his legacy. As a studio, they took continuous miserable decisions which resulted in advertisement failure. Now, the SAG-AFTRA strike caused some irritations for the most critical part for Oppenheimer.
SAG-AFTRA’s strike began on Friday at midnight and has no sign of stopping soon. Now the makers align their interest with the people striking and that can make a deal for the film.
The New York red carpet premiere of the Nolan film Oppenheimer was canceled due to the ongoing strike by SAG-AFTRA. Oppenheimer wasn’t the first film to face this fate as this was again followed by Special Ops: Lioness.
“In support of the ongoing SAG strike, the filmmakers of Oppenheimer will not be proceeding with the New York premiere as originally planned and will instead screen the movie to celebrate the crew and craftspeople who contributed to making this landmark film.” The statement was made by Universal Studios.
“You’ve seen them here earlier on the red carpet. Unfortunately, they’re off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by Sag, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of the unions, and we support them,” Nolan said at the stage during the New York premiere.
Before this incident, Oppenheimer makers also made some changes to their London premiere schedule. As the screening ended, the makers moved the Red Carpet time up an hour and allowed the cast to take photos and be a part of multiple interviews before the strike began.
Now, fewer premiers will cause less exposure and less buzz. Already Barbie is miles ahead in the campaigns and an occasion like this will push Oppenheimer back in the line. Events like these are significant and should be supported for the right reasons. But the makers didn’t do something to make it up to the fans.
