Fans, eager for more information from Sony regarding their Spider-Man universe, may find that Sony took it too literally by flooding the entertainment industry with Spider-Man content. Not only are they exploring villains and antiheroes, but Sony is also attempting to uplift characters from the Spider-Verse, including someone like Silk.
Korean-American writer Lauren Moon, known for “Good Trouble” and “Atypical,” is in discussions to pen a Marvel series, potentially focused on Silk. The project, produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal, is in talks with Amazon for acquisition. Sony Pictures Television, under Lord Miller’s deal, is set to produce.
In 2018, Sony Pictures began early development on a standalone Silk film, delving into the character Cindy Moon, a Korean-American classmate of Peter Parker with superhuman abilities. Concurrently, a female-led spinoff from “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was in the works, potentially featuring Silk, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman.
Cindy Moon, introduced in 2014, gained powers similar to Spider-Man after a radioactive spider bite. Tiffany Espensen portrayed Silk in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” but her involvement in the series is uncertain.
If approved, the Silk series would join Marvel’s expanding live-action streaming lineup, following successes like Netflix’s “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” Hulu’s “The Runaways,” and ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Is it too much Marvel content? That’s a question we will be asking very soon as the upcoming calendar promises an era of exhaustion.
