With a $56.5 million opening weekend haul, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” has ruled box office. This spectacular box office result represents a notable improvement over the nonexistent competition and a minor rise over initial estimates of $50 million to $55 million.
The movie debuted on par with two of the previous three entries in the revived series, only falling short of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” from 2014, “War for the Planet of the Apes” from 2017, and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” from 2011 ($54.8 million). But with the domestic box office plummeting 42% from 2019 and 22% from 2023, theatre owners are depending on blockbusters like “Deadpool.”
The fourth film in the “Apes” series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, took $160 million to make and is anticipated to gross more money overseas. With its $72.5 million international opening, the movie has already made $129 million worldwide.
The movie has received a “B” on CinemaScore and an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, despite not being as well-liked as its predecessors. The film, which was directed by Wes Ball, follows a young ape named Noa and a human named Mae as they pave the way for the two species’ futures.
